Use a small amount of water to make a rich scrub and exfoliate, use more water to achieve a thinner consistency to gently clean your face, or leave on to dry in the desired texture to use as a mask and draw out toxins and oils. For specific troublesome areas, or blemishes, use a small amount of water to make a rich paste and apply to wet skin. Leave on for about 5-10 minutes to use as poultice (herbal mask) about twice daily for persistent redness and troublesome areas. Wash off with warm water and follow immediately with an oil, butter or salve. If using Licorice Love to assertively calm a particularly itchy or red area, it may work best for you to add as much water as you can before it becomes too runny to leave on. The longer the licorice is on the skin, the longer it has to share its love. That said, we have to watch out for irritating the area with too long of a treatment, so as always, pay attention to your skin.
